Can I count the tandem as two bikes? :-)

Spud...tandems are shared property and don't count against your personal total. This works to your advantage.

Hab and Gonzo...Now hold on with this Bob by a mile business...he tends to build them up and get rid of them. I tend to keep mine. Merckx, Merlin, Serotta, Kestrel, Gunnar, Co-Motion, Salsa x2, Davidson, and Soma. That's 10 personal bikes.

Sharing two tandems...one for the wife and one for the son...those don't count of course.

Before the kids came around, cycling was my life...I rode to work every day rain or shine and I rode on the weekends. Didn't need a second car for many years...combined with being on the outskirts of the bike industry, cycling has not been a horribly expensive habit. After almost four years as a parent and needing to pick up a second car after the second kid arrived, I'm starting to come around to the fact that I have too many toys and too much functional redundancy. Just sold a Redline ti. Davidson touring, Shafer-era Salsa, Serotta cross, and Gunnar S&S Roadie are potentially being sold to friends who need bikes for my event in September. Would actually like to get rid of the Merlin because the 74 degree head tube is so much twitchier than everything else. After the "do-all" Soma was built last year, I find myself hardly touching most of my other bikes. The Co-Motion S&S Nor'Wester is a "business expense" as my role at work is now mostly cycling events. Looking forward to traveling out to Sun Valley in June to preview a two-day route for a new event. Shout out to PikeHillRoad for helping with the route design.

Yes...I realize my hypocrisy in telling BN to bank the money and free pass with the wife. Heck...buy and ride what makes ya happy.

BN. Speaking of how to spend a bonus and hijacking a thread. You ride a split board, right? How do you like it?

Mahoba - I do have a splitboard - I love it. Needless to say, this has not been the best backcountry season with avy danger being pretty high. I've not gone one once yet :(

When BC skiing w/ skiers - need to be sure where you stop -typically a bit above people so you can move down if necessary. Stopping below your desired point - and having to go uphill w/ a snowboard is not fun. Also traversing sucks - but w/ a little planning, I love the board - and snowboarding is less susceptible to crappy snow that skiers can struggle with.

I did a helicopter into a hut, then day-ski from the hut trip a couple of years ago - in BC Canada - was super fun - did 5-8K vertical/day = the most extensive use of the split board to date.

I'm in Denver (burb) efish - the wife is from Pittsburgh though

BN - I was snowboarding in BC a couple of weeks ago at a snow cat operation called Retallack. (Highly recommend it) Our guide used a split board for two of the four days we were out there. AT skis the other days. Every time I do one of those trips it ruins resorts for me for awhile.
I have basic back country knowledge but would not venture out w/o more formal instruction and gear. Particularly this season. I think the split board is inevitable, as I'm told by some of my long time boarder friends.

Mahoba - if you're interested, mountaingear.com has some split boards on sale now - several < $1K and I thought one was around $600 = as well as you can do for a new splitboard.. I also have AT boots and AT specific bindings on the board = way better than soft boots IMHO (but additional expense there...)

Copy on being ruined on resorts - I'd rather hike up the hill/mountain with zero people around than get 20K vert riding lifts any day. I do not plan to ride a lift (in colorado) again - Jackson, I may make an exception :)
