Taken yesterday, I though you might like this one.
I saw what I thought was one lone chick and only when I got home and loaded the photos did I see
the other one behind the tree.
I hope you enjoy, the cutest chicks of the bird world.

    awwww little fuzzers!

    great shot [again] D.

    those guys are beyond cute.

The baby GHO chicks have not yet appeared at our place - hear the parents hooting regularly - so I presume they're sitting on the eggs now. They are in/on a jumbo cottonwood tree across the fairway behind our house - maybe 100 from my back door = pretty cool. (no I'm not a golfer - I make fun of golfers - [no offense meant toward those who golf] - the property (on a GC) is great for wildlife in a somewhat urban setting - foxes, raccoons, skunks, bald eagle (during winter), many hawks, a kestrel swings by regularly to pick off doves, coyotes, and many songbirds...

Yesterday I happened to look out the window and saw three eagles perched on the pilings out in water in front of our house. This is rare as I quite often see one, sometimes two, and only one time that I can remember three, so I checked it out. I then noticed that there was a whole swarm of them on the beach fighting over some sort of carcass. It was great to watch as it was a collection of 14 eagles total including adults and some adolescents all vying for their opportunity to get their fair share. One would latch-on to the carcass and try to protect it from the others who then attacked, driving off the one holding onto it and making their play. Sometimes they'd get to pick-off a piece before being attacked by others and driven-off. It was interesting to note the pecking order, though some of the adolescents disregarded it and jumped right in, often holding their own. At any given time most were on the beach with others flying and swooping in, with others stood back a ways on the beach beach watching it all, wanting nothing more than to join the fray. It was quite a show! I've only seen large collections like this in pictures, usually in Alaska, though it happens out on the Hood Canal west of here. It was spectacular to watch nature in action. I wish I had a better zoom as I didn't want to get any closer and disturb them. It never occurred to me to get a movie, something my camera does well. Oh well, next time ...

I took pics, but from too far away to be anywhere as near as spectacular as those potted by Danboo, so I won't bother to post 'em, though I'm glad I got the ones I did. I guess you had to be there ...
