I am a wheel-o-holic

1 pair of wheels for each bike and no spares. Sold all the old race wheels the trispokes and disk when I finally sold my track bike.
I am looking for the Campy Bullet to arrive so I might drool upon them. CULT and tubeless with black carbon graphics.

I took the ceramic balls and replaced the races recently on my Campy Shamal wheel. It is ironic that Campy sells the upgrade bearings for use in this wheel but all it does is wear out the races very fast.

J A While Shimano wheels are very good and smooth hubs you got to remember they learned it from Campagnolo who actually make the smoothest hubs. Just saying

Hey stinky.... I am considering Eastons. Do you not like yours (EA90's)?

Tomcrac.... In the aerodynamic theme.... FYI, in all zipp and bontrager aero data results, the EA90s are among the most un-aero deep section wheels tested... And have up to 130 grams more drag at 11 degrees yaw and are 100+ more across the board...

    I'm getting a pr of Aeolus 7 D3s

Tomcrac, to add to what bodynazi said, the EA90s are also a bit soft.....not as snappy as say the Mavic Carbones. They are traditionally shaped....meaning not wide and not toroidal shaped. Those two features alone gets you less drag. Easton does a very good job of high even spoke tension and the wheels have remained true.

I am only riding them cause some gave them to me. If I was going to pay full retail, I would consider Dura ACe C50s or some HEDs.

+1 Stinky on the EC90's...I had Velomax wheels before Easton bought the company. They've pretty much stuck with the same design. The front wheel was laterally quite soft, but I was amazed that they stayed true very well.

I'm more of a huboholic than a wheeloholic...love DT and Shimano hubs on DT rims. Mavic made some nice hubs before they went to complete wheels only...I have a set of their last gen hubs. Just got a pair of NOS Rolf Prima Vigor RS wheels (built with White Industry hubs...they've since moved to in-house hubs) as part of our event sponsorship. Never had White hubs before...very fast, but kind of loud.

Some follow up. Got the hyperons, put the rimstrips on, lightweight butyl tubes (no latex allowed). While doing this i pput the new conti 4KS tires on the stillwarm engine of my car. I also had put thin layer of talcom powder on the tubes before putting them on the wheels. Lined the conti labels up with the stems and presto-the tires wenton on sooooo easy. Maybe too easy i was thinking?-so i inflated them to 120psi. I usually ride around 100-110. Well they didnt blow off the rim so thats good. Anyway, the amazing thing about the wheels is the hubs especially rear. Absolutely silent. The wheels spin up so fast. Rear wheel is super light compared with the shamals that came off. Front feels about the same. Havemt ridden them outsode of my driveway yet!

and here is a link to a grainy night time photo of the new hoops. yes the seat is tilted, yes there are valve stem caps on it, yes the chain is on the small ring. what else? the saddle bag looks crummy and the light on the saddle is hideous. Still.... Its mine. And I cant wait to ride it!

lightweight butyl tubes (no latex allowed)

Fastest way to reduce rolling resistance and increase your speed is to use a latex tube.

using a butyl tube is like....well, using latex for something else. ;-)

    Just say "NO!!" to WCP!

CK -- I usually use Latex tubes (they bleed down kind quickly but I do like them) Instructions that came with the hyperons explicitly state NOT to use Latex tubes as the heat generated during braking is likely to pop the tubes.

Nice collections guys, I like what mike said, "The wife does not notice wheel sets as much as entire bikes" Good Point, my wife rarely notices anything but complete bikes, I'll have to remember this!!
Hpl, what is wrong with a single speed MTB? Sure, we are a little nuts to ride one, but what a hoot!!

More followup on the hyperons - rode my 2hr rolling to hilly ride and really felt the difference going from the shamals to the hyperons. Exceptional spin up to speed, super smooth rolling and very stiff. Feel super efficient. The braking was fine. Not quite the quick first bite of the alloy rims, but tthe secondary slowing is very sure and predictable. Not grabby at all. Had a couple fast descents where i did alternate front to back just to practice that technique. Very happy with these wheels.

There is a 5k stretch that i time myself on. Almost all uphill, a few false flats. Did it last weekend in 14:45. Did it today in 13:45.

Just scored some 2012 Reynolds Carbon 29'er wheels. From the Reynolds rep via my friends shop. Don't have them yet but I'm pretty stoked $1000. I was just looking at them at Colorado Cyclist was about to buy them for $1200 +tax, so about $270 save, which is good because if me wifey finds out she'll kill me....lol.
