The ride from Golden around the Arvada Res and North Table is one of my favorite "I got an hour and don't want to climb" rides. The view from the top the res as you finish the little switchbacks on the NW side is one of my favorite views riding around here.
I live mostly in my head, in the State of Denial.
Yup....and largely ignored by most people (or at least it was when I was there).
My favorite "go to" ride was always Lookout Mountain. Rolled out from the house, warmed up going into Golden, hit the climb and jet down along I-70 (in the winter / spring at least...avoid the sand on the switchbacks!) and then back home.
If I wanted to go longer, kept going up through Evergreen, past Bergen Peak and down into Morrison.
Bergen Peak was my favorite MTB ride, though....just loved it.
Was nice to ride Lookout again in June whne I was out there for a trade show. Good memories!!

So far, it looks like I live in the most unexciting palce of any forumite.
Moved to Waukegan IL about a year and a half ago. Must be one of the suckiest places to ride a bike in the US....
Map updated with new locations.
FYI - I think I set this map up so that anyone can edit it. Using the link here to get to the map...
1 - Type your location into the Google search bar
2 - Click 'Save to map' on the left hand side of the screen
3 - Make sure 'VeloNews Map' shows up in the drop down box of which map you want to save to, and click 'Save' next to that drop down box
Here's the link again for everyone's benefit...
As to making the thread sticky, I assume one of the moderators can do that if they deem it worthy.
Central VA, and a little in the past (shortslowdistance would be more accurate) and a bit more in the future.
I couldn't seem to edit Archistu's map.
James Island SC for about 8 months. Riding is the worst of anywhere I have ever lived.
Starksboro, VT. 3 miles up from the bottom of the west side of the Appalachian Gap (Route 17).
North of Boston
Waynesboro Va. Pretty decent riding here. About 5 miles to the Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway.
Richmond, VA area
this map thing was a great idea. i wonder if vn would be willing to make this a part of their website? along with where we're from, we could give a star rating to the quality of riding along a brief synopsis and maybe quality of life?
Head north, young man. Riding gets much better over the border.Moved to Waukegan IL about a year and a half ago. Must be one of the suckiest places to ride a bike in the US....
But yeah, right where you are blows....kinda far to get to some of the burbs where there is good riding (Barrington, Round Lake, Mundelein, etc) and the N / S routes to Highland Park, etc. are all congested.
central maine. very nice riding.
