LeMond for UCI Prez

bob, I suspect many sponsors are now looking past Lemond's less than perfect behavior representing them and would see that Lemond does indeed bring a totally fresh look to UCI that would far outweigh the feathers ruffled. Loose cannons occasionally hit things. Whirlpools such as UCI was suck everything in.

Yes , in Vietnam we called it friendly fire, though is wasn't very friendly.

BUT I would like to see him go for it never the less be what may in a temporary role. As someone else stated Vaulters would be a good choice IMO (long term).

Chinook, Greg lived in a neighbor FULL of serial killers. Rumour is Greg was one too. But Greg called the police on Lance because Lance's lawn looked a lot better than Greg's.

Greg, Dr Bellocq, PDM Team, EddieB, Belgian Shot Docs - all of them lived in the neighborhood before Lance moved in. Lance was the new kid on the block. Had to join the neighborhood association already in place.

YoMike, Coppi was the greatest until Hinault and Greg took it easy on the climb to Alpe d'Huez while the peloton gifted. Then Eddy became the Greatest of All time. Couldn't truly apprecaite Eddy until that gift day. No Gift Eddy GRRR. Burp.

KR, I thought you were going to get on me for spelling appreciate wrong.

But really, it was King Eddy(Belgian) who chastised Lance(Texas) for gifting the stage to Pantani(Italian) at the TdF(France).

Eddy...well let's just say he was the butt end of many a prank at the hands of his Belgian racing counterparts during his career. They actually took advantage of his, "I must win everything" thought process.

I have total respect for Eddy's abilities, but he was a dick when he was racing. Like your man Lance.

If you are a fan of that type of racer, that is cool. I personally am not.

I agree with you about Eddys style, read books about him.
I would bet Greg would have won many more races with Eddys' vengeful attitude.
As far as a prez, LeMond is just to nice a person for the dirty world of pro sports.

polish, lance not only destroyed the careers of simeoni, bassons, andreau, landis etc. etc. but he also destroyed pantani's life by boasting the next day that he had gifted ventoux to il elephantino, so enraging il pirata that he destroyed himself the next day and then took up cocaine and died as a result of the whole affair.

and because lance was responsible for the death of il mercatone primo he cannot be considered a viable candidate for interim chief of the UCI, just ask any italian.

Cycling has been accused of needing serious and wholesale reform by Le Mond and Co and the first action they have recommended is Le Mond as Temporary President until someone better can be found. That has to be an absolute Joke!

What type of intelligence determines a need for radical action and determine a temporary President in someone who has no business acumen let alone for an International Multi Million $/£ business that is multi faceted.
Have I missed the point here and Le Mond is Business Man of this standing?

The credibility of these guys has been questioned having offered no substance to their calls for change and what they intend to do and now this!
Move over the Governor of the World Bank these guys will soon come to solve the World's Toxic Debt crisis.
Just remember why Saddam Hussein was left in Power after GW1 because the alternative was worse!

Are there really folks on here who love Cycling that are happy to take a punt and possibly destroy it or wait until we see the outcome of the Commission and determine what change is needed? It may work out that Pat etc will say bye.

What do people honestly think would happen if the keys to the Kingdom were handed over to Le Mond & Co tomorrow? Disaster would follow as they are good at criticising but not coming up with answers as we have seen.

@KR you need to THINK when you read and take the context correctly and not blindly as you are doing.

No, I think you need to take a deep breath and realize/understand that global politics and the UCI are not even close to being the same in terms of import or complexity.

Find a more nuanced analogy and I will take your argument more seriously.

Unless they can come up with something a lot more concrete this seems like a bunch of empty talk to me.

No, Keith, Orbital is equating McQuaid with Saddam Hussein. Not such an outrageous call. I just have issues with leaving him in power. Hussein did keep a historically very divided country of very different sects more or less at peace. The alternative would be, as GHB saw, a lot worse; basically anarchy.

McQuaid/UCI is closer to the analogy of the fox guarding the henhouse. And those hens are sponsorship money. In fact, I think I can see some feathers in his teeth. Lemond might be pretty spacey about feeding those hens and might lose one or two but we won't see them on his dinner plate.

@KR if you wish to lower your standards to trying for a cheap smart remark and wish me/all to believe you cannot determine the context and analogy being made go right ahead. It has as much substance and credibility as Le Mond & Co manifisto that a temp Prez will solve Cycling issues.

I said GL is a bad idea and gave a structured argument and you gave me nonsense in return but you still support them, WHY? Try taking time to make cogent points instead of throw away ones.

The other thread for LA as Prez is more credible than GL having built and run an empire larger than UCI and having all the required Sponsors on his Christmas list.

Orbital, huh? You wrote "...having all the required Sponsors on his Christmas list." Didn't those sponsors recently part ways with LA? (Trek, Nike, Oakly) And haven't key parts of that empire dis-owned him? (Livestrong) Am I missing something here?

What, no Hitler comparisons? Are our forum zealots are losing their fervor?

Greg would be a breath of fresh air, and a good first step before completely fumigating the UCI.

No offense to Greg but David Millar would be a better choice.
He has been on both sides of the tracks, is articulate, quick on his feet, and grounded.
I believe he is pretty well educated also. He would be my choice.

@79pmooney the sponsors link in business doesn’t disappear because of a strategic change that was essential for both sides. His sponsorship may be publically removed but all these friendships remain and will continue long after this event has passed to the back of the public memory.
LA also has shares in many of the companies and you burn money when you dont need to.

There is friendships and business and both can be together and separate as needed.

++ Polish, + Flicker and + Orbital and + RIF all the rest are fails. Putting Lemond in charge of the UCI would end Contador's career as we know it. That would be the consequence.
