Dang, can't get ride of this. It's been months of PT, stretching, exercises, ice, rest and anti inflamitories. Should I get the cortisone shot?
Any success stories out there?

Depends on where and how bad the tissue damage is. Assuming you have the common affliction of "tennis elbow" (lateral pain), you likely will respond well to a steroid injection, but the relief may not last and you don't want multiple injections. Rather than steroid, injecting whole blood, a specific part of blood ("PRP"), or an irritant ("prolotherapy") or just punching holes in the damaged tendon ("dry needling") are gaining popularity and in fact this is one of the hottest issues in sports medicine. Good research is lacking and anecdotal reports - you may get some on a forum - don't mean squat. And remember that many cases just get better on their own anyway.
Severe cases may benefit from more investigation with ultrasound or MRI and some need surgery. But this is uncommon.
So, should you get the shot? Up to you. If you want some relief right now (well, in a day or two) because you have some immediate need, then yes. Otherwise, don't know.
had tennis elbow in the past; it sure sounds like you're doing the right things. re: cortisone shot, had one once for plantar fascitis, temporary relief only i don't recommend.
try acupuncture yet? sometimes resting the inflamed ligaments is the only long term answer.
I have not tried acupuncture yet. I should try chiro too.
-thanks
Have you been wearing a compression sleeve ? That helped me a year ago with tennis elbow . I did a search for therapy : elastic band on your finger tips and open up your hand . Also a thera band roller to execise my forearms . Just do a search for therapy on the web and you should find something . BTW it took about 7 months for me to feel OK . Hope this helps and good luck .
All the good tennis players opt for steriods.
Right, Orange Crush?
I have elbow damage due to a bad bike wreck almost 20 years ago now. I crushed the area where the nerve passes through the elbow.
My middle, ring and pinky fingers go numb under various circumstances. Putting weight directly on my elbow is a no go.
Hang in there.
Had "golfer's elbow" a couple of years ago from riding the MTB. Same sort of thing, but on the inside knob of the elbow. Vicious painful when braking. An elbow band with the insert positioned over the tendon on the forearm helped while riding, but it took about 8 months to totally go away. Hang in there with the RICE therapy.
I've been dealing with this issue for 3 years since going on a pullup program. Had 2 Cortisone shots which provided total relief within 2 days, but it only lasted 3 months each time and then the pain was back - whether or not I used the elbow during that time or not. One doc swore by it and the other told me it did nothing but mask the issue and the pain would return.
I iced like crazy, tried accupuncture, stretched. Even considered surgery. The only thing that helped was total rest. And I mean total. Put your arm in a sling or pretend it's in a sling. 4 months of that and the pain finally went away mostly.
A year later and I can do many things without issue, but I think it will be with me for the rest of my life. Did some circuit training last week with 6 rounds and on the pullups I did only 1 each time (I could probably do 12 to 15 cold if I had to) and I felt it the next day. The PT I saw said that she has many clients who are pain free for a year and then do one big day of something and it's back as bad as ever. So, I'm resigned to modifying my activities for a long time if not forever.
Had a elbow problem 20 years ago. Would wake me up in the middle of the night, felt like someone was sticking an ice pick in my elbow. As I have said in other posts, phys. therapy put me on something like the medieval rack. A strap around my neck, my feet tied to the other end of the rack and it would pull for a few seconds then release repeat again and again with a little more pull each time. I had a kill switch in my hand to stop if things got out of hand. A more then few visits and the pain went away. Guess it was a pinched nerve in my neck area. I have gotten and still do get cortisone shots in my foot for the past two years about every six months. In my right shoulder every year and in my back a few times. Temp. and would prefer not to but nothing has worked long term except the rack for my right elbow. I have done just about everything at one time or another.
Fifty years of physical repetitive work slowly wears joints, cartilage, and nerves to a frazed something. Should of listened more in school.
They shot horses don't they?
Wish I saw this sooner. I had elbow tendonitis very bad, and no shot helped. What did help was wearing one of those velcro braces designed to stabilize the tendon. Wore it for at least 8 months. Pain gone.
It comes back if I do pullups or too many pushups, so wear the brace when you're working out. But it does work. And I did only two or three PT sessions.
Good luck. Tendonitis is miserable.
I've still got the pain. I've read half the internet about it and tried my different exercises. I don't think there is a cure. It feels the same if I do exercises religiously for months or if I just rest it. I probably need a MRI before I try other stuff. All I know for sure is that I wasted over $200 seeing a Dr. and PT.
Pascal... Was your pain on the outside of the elbow?
How close to your elbow did you put the strap?
How tight did you wear it?
How many hours a day did you wear the strap?
I've been dealing with elbow pain too for about a year as well. Mine's on the inside, very localized (does not radiate) and it was triggered by too many pullups/biceps bench last year I guess. I did not lift from March until December but it was always there, just less intense. I'm again weight lifting and doing pullups and the pain is always there now. I've chosen to ignore it, or acknowledge it but keep doing what I'm doing for now. If it's there whether I work out or not, I might as well exercise.
Went to my chiropractor. There wasn't anything in my neck or spine contributing to the elbow pain. He did do some ART (deep tissue massage) and that seems to be helping. It gets a little better every week (say %5). Of course then I go and do some wrenching in the garage Sunday and set myself back a few weeks. Anyway, massage is working better than any PT I had. Cheaper too. Good luck to all.
Oddly I had the se issues, and dental work diet, german lintaments, rest made them go away,
My wife swears by swimming in Ocean(F57o)
I like drinking major water, and red wine.
I ride carbon TREK, with cork tape, 25mm tires at low pressure.
If possible eze off on cycling.
