    My thoughts:
I thought the Basques were getting out of cycling. Glad I didn't go to their farewell party.

I'd guess Purito is not long for the tour and will get a Giro and Vuelta invite regardless. Still, licenses are based on both points and finances so does that mean Katusha is failing on the financial front?

I thought the Basques were getting out of cycling.

The Basques almost pulled the plug on the team. Instead, they have ditched entirely Basque makeup of the team and are bringing in other nationalities now.

+1 Jacobus. Was just reading in ProCycling this morning that Euskatel extended Sammy Sanchez's contract for three years, and the interview talked about bringing in riders of other nationalities though Sanchez expected the majority of the team to continue to be Basque.

These kind of obtuse decisions is exactly why cycling needs reform.

I also would have thought that with the current desire for a clean image, Tinkov is bad news and as such Riis would have been given the boot.

But they got it right with Argos.

Was Katusha already in? If not, then who was relegated?

I would've been pretty shocked to see Saxo get the boot though.

My understanding is that Katusha was assumed to be in, although they did have their original paperwork rejected back at the start of November along with RadioShack and Movistar. It was thought to be a problem with the paperwork and not a terribly serious issue. Guess that wasn't the case.

Number 2 ranked team is out....hmmm. WHat is this BS with teams having to get their "poaper work" in every year, they just finished thew season two months ago. What the heck is the paper work about. I don't get it.

    LeMond VO2 max 95, Armstrong 82....doh

More corrupt shit from the UCI, but do they really want to be pissing of a team named after a rocket launcher and financed by the Russian mob? Methinks the UCI is about to really learn what playing dirty is all about.

This is definitely surprising. Adds weight to the statement "The UCI is making pro cycling unwatchable." The team of the #1 rider from 2012 is not admitted into the club for 2013?

Further evidence that professional teams should create their own league. What sponsor would want to sign up for this arbitrary crap?

Sounds like Specialized made the pay off to the UCI. Astana has always had finacial problems and Saxo not only has financial problems but they lack the points to race. Even if the paperwork was lacking this would be the first time they sent a team down because of paperwork, if they were ranked 11-15 maybe but not a top tier team. Either way I would't be eating any Sushi if I were at the UCI

The teams should run cycling. It is that way in every professional sport. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.
If you don't want to be in the league, you sell the franchise.

The UCI has stated "ethics" as the reason for their decision. At face value, I agree with them. BUT, the UCI and ethics just don't got together. Maybe they are sending a message and at the same time removing their least favorite team.

If it is ethics, then why is Astana and Radioshack still around?

nightfend, Katusha has 4 riders under investigation for working with ferrari, Kolbanov has been proved to be payed off by vino to win a big classic, Pozzato has ridden for katusha, 4 riders for doping positive with katusha, katusha is not thrown under the bus, they jumped under the wheels themselves.
Astana is dirty, but the Shack is driven white snow clean. I think when thehog and the 3 doctors were thrown out, they are OK.
Astana pays off the UCI for their ride!!
