Wasn't Lemond the only one to talk about the elephant in the livingroom?

I think a better question might be "What has everybody else been doing the last 25 years?"

+1 Ben. After reading the article, I thought exactly the same thing.

McQuaid needs to do the right thing and step down. He has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of competence and has little credibility remaining. In my opinion, he is still part of the problem.

That is one very weird guy. But Verbruggen, too -- did anyone look at that photo closely? The company I'm consulting for markets a drug that specifically treats for this syndrome. I'll get our sales staff right onto this.

McQuaid just cannot help coming across as a d!ck. If he had any PR skill he could say much the same thing without being an ass. I tend to agree that if McQuaid were to step down LeMond would not be the best choice to replace him. There are other individuals with the necessary level of experience to lead an international sporting organization. I like LeMond but he is not the type of individual I would want running the UCI.

McQuaid also misses the point that the reality of LeMond's offer was much more of a PR move, which worked.

In the last 20 or so years Greg has...

    1) Made lots of money selling his name to TREK so they could build some really sweet bikes.

    2) Made lots of money selling notsosweet Lemond Brand products through TARGET.

    3) Made lots of money selling crappy trainers through Brunswick.

    4) Making some money? with his currrent line of weird trainers.

    5) Made LOTS of money sueing #1, #2, & #3 above. Probably trying to think of ways to sue #4.

    6) One of the Founders of the Lance Hater Club that is MOST responsible for putting Pro Cycling in the toilet it is in today.

I agree that putting Greg up for Head of UCI was a PR Stunt. And I agree that is was arrogant or stupid or not well thought out. If CCN was SERIOUS about nominating a candidate for UCI Prez they should have researched how it is done and done it correctly. Heck, they still have a chance to do that if they would just use their brians. Morans.

    What has McQuaod done?
Since 2006 he has been President of the UCI.
Check out the Grand tour winners. Dopers galore. Don't forget to add the stripped titles.
    Cleaning up the sport? Ha.

He was banned from entering the 1976 Olympics after being caught racing in South Africa, in contravention of the anti-apartheid sporting boycott. He had entered the race using a false name.

Betcha he owns stock in the pharmaceutical industry.

    Say goodnight Gracie.

A few points could be made:

    1) McQuaid appears to run an odd organization that lacks conviction to do the right things or focuses on items like weight and race radios (and is exceptionally defensive to boot). So, he doesn't seem like a winner on the face of it. It's clearly a f'ed up organization though.

    2) Agree on Lemond for prez. Not sure LeMond has the executive presence and skills to be president. His ability to cogently respond to events and clearly articulate points is a little lacking. And he appears to be often ruled by emotions which are two danger signs in an organizational leader. But who knows - I never worked with him. But the whole Landis / Lemond connection and conversation seemed surreal and ludicrous although Lemond seemed well meaning but also a glory-seeking buffoon frankly.

Who knows really unless you are working with these folks. The media is an often times distorted lens to judge people thru.

I will say this, I have met and ridden with a few folks who have worked extensively with the UCI and they weren't complimentary so

I guess the NFL knows how to hide or suppress it's sordid past and present better while still generating boatloads of cash. That's why the ASO is probably a smarter business to be in - just stick with the TV friendly events that make money and leave the policies, governance, and nonsense to others.

    The Zombie subject again...

McQuaid will be remembered for presiding over cycling during it's golden years. "Golden" as in during the time when cyclists were most highly rewarded for everything they did to make the race the most appealing to the broadest range of spectators who consequently brought more gold to the sport than it have ever seen before or ever will again most likely. Lemond was trying to kill the golden goose from the get go and finally got his wish fulfilled with the help of USADA.

Those on the inside who are part of a "power structure" will say and do anything to protect their position while people on the outside - usually acting as lone voices - will always be criticized for their opinions and actions. The lesson is that history will always bring clarity and show who the do-nothings are.

McQuaid is a POS who has done little to nothing to clean up a sport, which is part of his actual job description. He has chrome plated brass balls to make these comments about a guy like Greg LeMond.

You forgot about Lemond suing the founders of the Yellowstone Club. Remember seeing that garish upscale compound on the Travel Channel. Makes the Texan's place look downright modest.

Nothing against Greg, I enjoyed his racing back in the day. Shame what FL did to him.

Sorry, Polish is a puss. Turning a blind eye is what pussys do period. If you are going to cheat, man up when you get caught. Lance is the best representative for the pussy generation…lies, buy, cheat, and steal to get ahead.

The Lance devotee’s need to get off his jock and be a fing man. Rise tall and move on.

The Lance doping era is a blip, cycling will be bigger this year then any year that lance raced.

A bit buffoonish, arrogant, narcissistic, known for saying "your fired", offered to run for president, litigious, and loves to shoot off his mouth. I just don't get why the press pay attention to either of these two clowns.

@jmr, I did not forget about the Yellowstone Club Lawsuit. Heck, that was one of the Greg Clan's biggest payoffs - $40mil? But it was not Pro Cycling Related. This thread is "What has Greg done for CYCLING in the last 25 years - so I just listed the Cycling Lawsuits.

@stormchaser, Yes - the Lance Era was a blip.
    Blip/Blip/Blip/Blip/Blip/Blip/Blip.
    Blip of Excellence.
    Blip.

2013 does promise to be excitement city. Brad is Mad. Alberto is Hungry.
And the Young Americans, both north and south of the border, show promise. Will it be the Year that the Tour of California moves up from #4 GT to #3? Fingers crossed. Levi vs TommyD. Quivering here.

And lets not forget Tour of the Gila, Tour of Nevada City, Tour of Colorado, and the Leadville grrrr. And TriAthalons grrr again. Maybe some new sponsors will enter the fray - if the teams promise not to put the their name on the jersey. "Team Blank".Discreet. Neat. Iranic.

Stormchaser, reading Tylers book, it sounds like the riders were really enjoying the PEDs, I heard USPS shared PEDs with opposing teams who were struggling, Tylers words. Frankie baby was the distributor.

If Levi and Hincapie are forgiven, why not Lance?

flicker, the first step toward forgiveness is acceptance. LA has not yet accepted he has done anything wrong. Are we supposed to forgive him for something he denies doing. (Yes, we probably should, it's the right thing to do; but not within his earshot. We'd probably get spat upon.)
