given that they gave a protour license to saxo bank/tinkoff, i'm having a hard time swallowing the ethics argument. not that katusha isn't suspect, but c'mon - how much more needs to be said before the UCI accepts that riis is a shady character? and oleg tinkoff? please....

there's something else going on here. the ethics complaints about katushe are legit but they're a cover for something else. there's a bigger part of this story that isn't getting told (yet)...

There is little I see coming from UCI that is right and clean. But making a statement that one rider's actions may well affect an entire team and their paychecks. That gets riders' attention. If doping, even by a teammate, will cost that rider more than what he can win doing it, well, now there is real incentive to keep both oneself and teammates clean.

Now,I am a realist. This won't stop everything. But if all on Katusha know that just one positive probably means they will not see the top rank next year and they have the fear of biopassport positives, now there is real incentive to do very little blood manipulation. What works can also be seen. And we know that, at least for now, the big gains are there (blood manipulation). A little speed for this race, painkiller for that one will still happen, just as it always has, but the big horsepower boosts will be reigned back a lot.

Now, UCI, be consistent. Be up front and transparent. (And give the testing and enforcement to someone else.)

(Actually, I doubt Katusha can pull off a clean year. But other teams in the B ranks might see this and do it for a chance to move up. And other big dog teams might well see that running cleaner, even with fewer wins, might well mean a longer ride with the big dogs.)

the UCI doesn't want to play Sergei Says. But what about Astana and Saxo Tinkoff? I would put Astana in the super shady category

Jah, hence the "There is little I see coming from UCI that is right and clean" and "Now, UCI, be consistent. Be up front and transparent."

I don't have high hopes UCI can do either. But I can hope this is a start.

Basically since Eki rode with Lance he inherantly toxic/dirty/acheater.

Pretty much USADA/Novitzky/Race Radio/Hog hater logic.

Very sad and hateful towards cycling, a truly wonderful sport.

Yeah, very hateful towards cycling. After all, we can't "spit in the soup", can we?
