36 degrees F on my morning commute, in San Diego

OK actually 10 miles east of San Diego in Santee, but still the coldest morning since January! It is very common after a rain storm passes that cold air moves in and this was predicted, so I was prepaired on my ride in. My ride home Tuesday was worse - a cold 55, and very windy. Plus the roads were really wet. But that is the beauty of SD, if it is raining just wait a day.

Perfect day to ride up Honey Springs, the winds will push you up.

Vancouver is gridlocked in snow, power outages abound and some dufus engineer didn't think of ice falls when designing the widest bridge on earth, the spanking new Port Mann, which just got closed so all the rifraf from Surrey can;t make it back home.

Needless to say I did not ride :-(

The wise man said follow me...and he walked behind.

Accuweather app just pushed a Frost Warning to me here in Foothill Ranch, near Irvine but a wee bit higher in elevation. Neighbor saw 38 this AM but forecast is for colder tonight. Guess its back to the turbo trainer in the early morning or Velodrome in the PM. Wife isn't too happy with me driving to Carson and home late at night.

It was freaking cold on the mountain today, the temp wasn't THAT bad 7 degrees but there was this humidity from a fog that just went right through you.

Canucklehead, my coldest rides ever were winter of '76 when for a work week, the morning temp was -20.6C (-5F) every morning. First 2 miles of my 12 mile commute were downhill. I REALLY looked forward to the gentle 2.5 mile climb stating at mile three.

Those temperatures are where fix gears really shine. They aren't warm downhill, but they are much warmer than a cassette! Also CX tires. Rolling resistance is your friend!

I feel your pain: you may not have a white Christmas. For us, it seems fairly likely: the temperature is -13 C and dropping fast. Picture from my commute yesterday:

Who lives near Wisconsin? My mom is headed back to visit my sister in Oconomowoc. Mom really wants to see show and sis just wrote that a blizzard is coming in! Of course she will take credit for filling mom's wishes:)

I'm starting to realize I need to go compact...on the snow shovel. Moving that friggin' heavy Vancouver slop 3x in 24hrs is back breaking. Cursing the corner lot.

OC. You need a snowblower. We had to get one for our home in Whistler. I have a moderate sized driveway but it is sloped so I had to get treads versus tires. Only big ones have treads. Husqavarna with a 30 inch cut, 420 cc or something like that. I'm about to fire it up on clear the 30 cm or so we got last night. 50 cm in the alpine but avalanche control will probably keep the alpine closed for a while if not the day.

OlmoRider, looks like we got stuck on the same road.

Hey HPLBiking,I thought San Diego was a good place to retire for old folks, think I'll stay in foggy San Francisco.

Bob, it looks like the same road but you had better company! (and mine really is a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians only, be careful with the SUV if you ever visit our neck of the woods)
