i forgot how much work those classes can be. i was wrecked after but i feel good today. i got tired of the classes in the past because it was the same instructor doing the same class twice a week. now there are 3 classes with 3 different instructors. the monday night class instructor was irritating and her music sucked but the variety of standing / sitting / climbing / spinning was good.
my first spin class in 7 years

If you are not hallucinating, you are not trying hard enough

Used to be an instructor many years ago. I was amazed how many hours per week I would spend putting together the right mix of music for the class.
"Riding is about rhythm and flow. It's the wind in your face and the challange of hammering up a long hill. It's the reward at the top and the thrill of a high-speed descent. Biking lets you come alive both in body and spirit." -
The difference between a good instructor (does like Spud and spends some time on the playlist) and a bad one (single techno-pop track recycled each class) is astronomical. We have one instructor at my club that has the perfect storm- she's old enough to like the 70's and 80's music I grew up with and has at least 10 different mix "tapes" she uses- I really enjoy her workouts. Unfortunately so does everyone else- you have to get there 25 minutes early to get a bike.

when i was teaching 3x a week i put together over 100 playlists, all different music. it did take some time.

yeah, she played a lot of techno-pop with the heavy beat and monotonous lyrics. i'm not there for a musical education but a little time putting together a good 45 minute playlist shouldn't be that hard. she also kept yelling 'whooo!' after every hard effort. annoying.

i guess i can always find something to bitch about.

Way to go, at least you did the workout.
Hopefully the ladies were glancing your way!Much better than not riding.

there's always that old guy that groans a lot while spinning. i try not to be that person lest the ladies look at me in disgust.

Spin class with a good music track can be a blast. I did those for quite a few winters. Got tired of the commute. However the early morning eye-candy was always a plus.
Broke a few bikes in the process. Not able to handle the work loads.
Now I tend to ride my track bike on a turbo-trainer. Smoother cadence, not commute, and I own the sound tracks. Plus my dog gets to hang out in the garage with me.
