how I did my first triathlon

It was really just meant to be a ride & ski day. In the end, it made perfect sense, self-propelled from home to Hollyburn Peak.

Ride from home to Cypress Bowl, 60 k with a 12 k climb in the end.

Meet mrs OC and ski up on Hollyburn as high as you can get.

Hike the last couple kms up to Hollyburn Peak (4500 odd feet).

    pics to follow later...

The wise man said follow me...and he walked behind.

    What?

Is this some kind of Dutch BS? Triathlon is swim, bike, run - not ride, ski, hike.

I'm guessing that you're not swimming in Holland right now.

What you did is closer to a biathalon. Next time, take a gun.

Better send the pics anyway - just in case.

It's Dutch BS alright, why else would I be here?

    But look:

"A triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines.[1] While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances."

Oh no, it can be something besides swim, bike, run. Who would'a guessed.

-4C at start this morning; -5C at start of XC skiing.

Only two falls! One on super-fast snow, out of control with legs hurting from ride. The other, short cutting a roundabout and missing the obstacle they put in center, which wiped me out completely. Got away with a scratched elbow.

Oh man, my ski friends would be jealous. We have spray painted the grass white here on the East coast.

Nice pics! Looks like a great day. What would have been truly impressive is if you did it completely self supported, i.e. rode with all your ski equipment.

Is it wrong that when Mrs OC got involved my first thought was 'your third sport is really none of our business'?

Winter triathlons are becoming more popular and interesting - especially for people like me who can't swim. Start off with a run, then mountain bike portion, and followed by X-C skiing. All done on snow! I have yet to do one, but sounds like fun to me!

Don - I believe in Ottawa they have a winterlude Tri that's speed skating on the canal, XC skiing and running.

CB2 - 50km through the city with skis on my back - I think not :-)

Sore all over my body as it is, yesterday was well out of my league for this time of year.

    archistu - LOL!

Heck I even made it to pool yesterday although it was the kids doing swimming. Downhill tomorrow!

    Another day of snow awesomeness.

I wonder why I am so tired every Monday.
