bruised and battered

Today was the day where I remember to take it easy under snow conditions or not ride at all. Bit late now.

It seemed fine upon departure. But then going down Cariboo hill cars stopped hard in front of me and my brakes locked up. Bike slipped and I came down on my left side. Things seemed fine enough, got up quickly, checked that bike was OK, brushed off snow from myself and continued down the hill to work.

But now left side of hips and rib cage are hurting real good, moving is painful. Strangely enough the palm of my right hand it also hurting, almost cramping it seems.

This on top of the self-inflicted fall last Friday short-cutting over a traffic circle and completely missing the obstacle put halfway around that circle to prevent short-cutting, which swiped the handlebars out of my hands. Came away with just a scraped elbow and hurt pride on that one.

    Be safe everyone!

The wise man said follow me...and he walked behind.

OC...Sorry to hear this man...Hope you heal up quickly. I haven't touched my bike for commuting in about two months and you're not making me miss it.

That sucks OC. Hope no ribs are broken. To have those few seconds back to do over.

That day for me was the friday before xmas. I thought the Black Ice would be minimal but it turns out the water had not evaporated enough the night before when the temp dropped. I wiped out on a corner on the path, landed on my elbow and have a pinched nerve in my neck. Three weeks off the bike so far but hoping to give it a go tomorrow, pending again the black ice situation. Freezing fog possible though. Tingling all down my arm when I turn my head a certain way. Chiro is not helping all that much unfortunately.

All of that sounds real good, amount of hurt is still rising as body start acknowledging full extent of damage.

Unfortunately stuck in a desk chair at work looking at a crazy week.

The hip will be fine, the ribs and right hand are going to be bothersome for quite some time it feels like. No major damage though, just bruised real good. Came away lucky again.

    Shite tho.

OC - The planets must be in line for bad karma. I was out on my Mt. bike this w.e being in the low 40s but very damp as it had rained heavily the day and night before. I was going downhill across logs and rocks and my glasses had fogged up and as I was thinking I better stop and wipe, just then I hit a rock that I did not see and over the bar I went landing on my knee. Ripped the knee of my expensive knickers, bloodied my knee and screamed like a little girl, but thank god there was no one around to hear or see.

Sleeping is uncomfortable and I have a big pad on my knee to stop it from sticking to my pants. Oh yeah climbing steps really sucks. Not looking forward to getting old……hold on too late. I’ve had bruised ribs and I know you are in more pain than I. Get well soon.

Man! It is strange to me you would call that strange. Every time I have gone down my hands have suffered. It's the reason I would damn near rather give up my helmet than my gloves and could not understand Horner's peculiar quirk on the matter.

    Sorry for your suffering.

AF - strange only cause it is right hand and I fell on my left side. Hand must have gotten slammed by handlebars.

Yes bad karma Kameron - yesterday my boy had a big crash trying to make a fancy stop skiing. Bloodied lip and this morning he was complaining about shoulder and neck.

Now wait a minute! What's with all this Karma talk? OC, based on my impression of you here, you are a long long way from the top of the list for those who have a karmic smackdown coming.

I'm thinking the only way your accident could have been karmic related is if had you kept going without the accident you would have eventually been co-located in time and space with a mini-asteroid that instead buried itself into an empty snowbank without even being witnessed.

Lunchtime self-check in the change room:
    1. Thenar area of hand about twice its usual thickness.
    2. Hips a big patch of dark blue with some red scratch marks.
    3. Ribs nothing to see but if I hadn't been prepared and gritted my teeth, putting lunch tray in dishway would have resulted in major outcrie and cursing. F#@%k that hurt.

Probably take off early, ride home while it is still light, and take some major painkillers. Depending on how things feel tomorrow, may have those ribs checked out.

AF - karma as in I like to take physical risks but most of the time I get away with it. At some point that catches up with you.

OC, I broke my right thumb years ago when I went down on my left side on a frozen dirt road. Apparently I reached across to break my fall.

Rib injuries suck. There is absolutely nothing to do but live your life best you can 'til they heal.

two kinds of cyclists: those who have crashed, and those who will crash. I think I'm both.

Ben - that about sums it up. Yesterday I had some moron in the bus seemingly intent on bumping into my injured left side carrying too much junk to steady himself. Had to elbow him hard away from me. So today, for better or for worse, it is back to the commuter.
