Poor Phil...you'd thought someone just ran over his dog by the expression on his face.

It is his word versus ours. We like our word. We like where we stand and we like our credibility."--Lance Armstrong.

"and he answered that with a single word - 'Yes, I did.' "

That pretty much sums up Phil's buffoonery as a commentator.

    Just say "NO!!" to WCP!

Quoth Phil: 'Oprah did an OK job for somebody that knows nothing about sport'

What did YOU know about sport, Phil?

    Where were YOUR questions?

the "voice of cycling" is clearly not the brains or heart of cycling.

what a windsock. he & mcquaid and all those old fuckers who only care about their own pocketbooks and nothing about the sport itself need to go as far away as their golden goose.

Phil is upset he can no longer ride the coat tails of one self admitted arrogant prick.

"Riding is about rhythm and flow. It's the wind in your face and the challange of hammering up a long hill. It's the reward at the top and the thrill of a high-speed descent. Biking lets you come alive both in body and spirit."

liggett on how oprah did: "well she did an okay job for someone who knows nothing about (the) sport... questions would have been much harder if... they drilled for the heart and made him give the answers... i think she let him off a little bit lightly at times."

you cocksucker -- for decades you sucked his ball and never questioned ANYTHING, like when he chased down simeoni on the last stage of the tour and all the allegations and your defense of armstrong not more than a month or so ago in the south african interview.

    PLEASE, GO AWAY MOTHERFUCKER!

Word Entheo...Phil has ZERO respectability at this point.

What is the legal term, "aiding and abetting" a crime?

It is not Phil's job to ask "Tough Questions". He is a play-by-play Announcer Extrordinaire. That is his job description.

You guys need to pack your suitcases of courage and throw a spanner in someone elses work - not Uncle Phil the Knowledgable.

"Dandy Don" did not ask tough questions waa. Jack Brickhouse did not ask tough questions waa. Waawaawaa.

Has there been anything in the media about Simeoni being contacted or his response to the interview? I haven't seen or heard anything, but haven't had time to dig around too much.

I never saw "Dandy Don" act incredulous over another player being suspended, either.

Well, Polish, I guess I must have missed the tactical, play-by-play analysis and justification that Phil provided for LA bridging up to Simeoni and 5 other non-GC riders all desperately hoping for a Stage win to essentially 'mug' Simeoni and bring him back to the peloton to be mocked by LA's henchmen.

IIRC, this was stage 17 or 18, and LA was 3-4 minutes up on the field, race essentially in the bag. LA's actions were indefensible on ALL accounts.

Simeoni talking about having received EPO from Ferrari - someone LA still defends - could have had something to do with it, I suppose......

I wonder how much it will be discussed during the tour coverage this year. I would approciate it if they just covered the race.

wait a minute -- he was a writer/journalist and then international editor of cycle sport magazine, race organizer and uci commissaire. you mean to tell me he doesn't have time to read his own fucking trade magazines whilst he's gallivanting from race to race to keep up?

granted he's been a senile old fuck of an announcer for years now, thanks to his penchant for the grape in the evenings, can't keep the riders straight and doesn't know where the finish line is anymore, but that's no excuse for him not knowing what his gravy train has been up to.

    comon polish, who you crappin'?

Show respect for the sport and the riders of 2013, and leave this discussion for the Internet forums on VN and CNF.

I thought the interview went well. Liggett's viewpoint has certainly evolved from previous ones he's made, because he was a believer to the very end.

But aside from the "500 tests and never tested positive" gaffe, he was pretty much spot-on.

I believe wholeheartedly that Bob Roll and Graham Watson are much more deserving of the vitriol being leveled at Phil at the moment. Those two have been absolutely horrendous in absolving and defending Arsmtrong, and as such deserve to get hammered in the court of public opinion moreso than Liggett.

This is a complicated issue going forward. The media backlash has been pretty seismic, but that is to be expected due to the magnitude of the fraud that has been perpetrated.

Putting aside feelings of intense acrimony, we need to move forward and get at the truth of how this doping program operated and how it went undetected for so long, and keys to getting at this information are Dr. Ferrari and Johan Bruyneel.

And the governing body of the sport needs to be made accountable. Institutional failure has become par for the course in our society, and the people at the top seem to have become impervious to failure, incompetence and corruption. In other words, Verbruggen, McQuaid and the UCI need to answer for all this just as much as anyone else.

The only one who could help bring about is Armstrong. The ball, as it were, is in his court.
