What is your favorite training shoe of all-time?

  1. For my money, there was no beating the Asics 2060 back in 2001-02--must've had close to 20 pairs and a few thousand miles on those suckers!

Those things were crap. Sidi Genius 3 Megas were way better.

I've got thousand and thousands of miles on my NorthWave Tom Boonen editions. When I get near the white line I feel a slight pull to that side, but other than that they've been great shoes.

Training? I use them for racing as well-- I want my dogs to be just as happy on a training ride as I do a race.

    Chuck Taylor, black hi-tops.

They made me feel like I was 14, and I could ride in them all day, all summer.....

I think there may be lexicon issue here: Training shoes as in sneakers? It seems odd to ask about them on a cycling forum.

Asics Gel 1050 is my favorite running shoe. I hit the jackpot when I bought a 10 pairs at $10 each on a close-out sale. The 1050 (replaced with 1160) was meant for all around use, not high end performance like the 2060 (now 2160), making it a little more forgiving on impact, which is what my poor joints need.

Hey Hab and Moc, check out the thread header. Milk, this is no longer only a cycling forum (sadly).

TSWG: YES ! I'm with you on the barefoot running. Cheapest shoe's I've ever owned =)

rnddude: It's not just a cycling forum anymore, but it's quite compartmentalized. You can stick to the cycling only conversations, and never be exposed to anything else if that's what you prefer. Look at it from our standpoint though... It's a logistics nightmare to manage 1 forum for Velo, 1 for Triathlon, 1 for Running.... This way for the folks that do have interest in things other than cycling, they can jump over to other topics with 1 account, and it allows us the ability to manage things in one spot, and moderate things across the board more effectively.

I know changing things around is always disheartening, but hopefully there will be some interest in other topics outside of the world of cycling that might catch your attention...

Ben, perhaps it just takes a while for the runners & Tri-guys to find their way to this site, and there will be more participation in the near future, but it doesn't appear to be the case so far, almost no postings in the non-cycling areas. I don't mind the others sports being here, it's just that there can be some confusion when thread titles aren't specific to a specific sport, such as this one for example. "What is your favorite training shoe of all time?" fooled me cause I didn't look at the catagory before entering the thread (I rarely do), and found postings by both runners and cyclists, somewhat confusing....

Good point rnd, We'll work on labeling topics a little more clearly in the future.. Yeah, we're hoping the forums for the other sports to be as successful as the Velo. Just gonna take us a little while.

And if you cycling folk wanted to jump over to the tri forums, and post some stuff... that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world ;)

Ben,it's really not a moderater issue. As usual, it is us (the posters). We need to think about what the thread title should be so as to be clear about the content, not always the case.

When I started running in the late 70s, they were called Tigers and then changed to Asics at some point....don't remember when. They are all I ever ran in.

Nike LD1000. Now acknowledged to be an injury waiting to happen, but I loved running in them in the Winter in Michigan back in the day.

Tiger/Asics Gel Lyte - super light and responsive. Blue and orange. Reebok Aztec was the shoe that broke the mold - when it was released everyone clamored for it.

Tiger Montreal III's back in the day, man those were some great shoes. Does Asics still make a pretty good shoe?
What were these Onitsuka Tiger? something like that

    Who needs shoes?

After looking at the feet of TSWG I am happy to say I do. After about 15 years of no running I am going to try again one more time. Bad feet and all. Used to use Brooks Beasts but just bought a pair of Asics 2150. I used to run like I cook, low and slow Just like i reply to posts. Hope that still works

I use Brooks Glycerin 8. It's comfy and lighter than my previous one. Also , i find it easy to run on the ball of my foot. And one of the most important thing is that it doesn't fit my foot arc so i have foot space for spring action. This is like a glider for me.
