"Armstrong Gear Goes on Closeout After Doping Confession"

And Wilcockson strikes a new note

/“I’ve been pretty depressed, having written such positive things,” said Wilcockson, who has known the 41-year-old Armstrong since the cyclist was 16. “Everyone accepted Lance was the champion. They didn’t question him because they benefited from his success. That’s how the big lie was perpetuated.” /

    Including most journalists.

Some nice stats in the article about LA's impact on bike sales, etc.

It'll probably wind up donated to third world countries along with the Super Bowl Champions stuff of the team that lost.

+1 CK, what kind of journalist worth their salt wasn't suspicious of everything surrounding Lance. His last book about Lance published was in 2010, by that time there was so much information out there pointing to how involved Lance was in all this. Wilcockson was so blinded by his adoration of Lance that he came to some really bad and false conclusions. I think he has every right to be to depressed at his own journalistic failings. Glad to see someone partially own up.

Using the third person, not very contrite. I don't believe "everyone".

+1CK - No sympathy from me either for John Wilcockson. 44 Tours and you had no idea they doped. You are either a dope, or trying to fool the media having made made your money based on fiction for so many years.

There are a lot of people in the media who are feeling REALLY foolish for buy what Lance was selling, especially when there was SO MUCH contrary evidence right under their noses that they willingly chose to ignore because it was monetarily beneficial for them to do so.

I presume that most of the "journalists" that bought the LA 'story' were willing to write what was spoon fed to them, what stories sold copy and who didn't want to end up on the opposite side of the Lancevengancemachine like Boyle and other writers who may have posited that LA doped.

walsh tells a story that at one tour, after he had written a critical article about LA, wilcockson wouldn't ride with him to the next stage for fear that someone would find out and banish him from access to the inner circle.

i get that you don't bite the hand that feeds you, but the journalists who licked his butt (and we know who they are) are the ones i really wish would devote themselves exclusively to reporting on LA's current competitive events (e.g. none, so STFU and go away).

It was more than turning a blind eye. When serious investigative journalists like Walsh or Damien Ressiot (who broke the 1999 EPO positives in L'Equipe) published serious stories, they were crucified by their colleagues, especially those in the US.
