    Fun read from the Atlantic.

It is his word versus ours. We like our word. We like where we stand and we like our credibility."--Lance Armstrong.

Good article. I have been saying that Armstrong has a defective personality for years. I am sure I am not the only one who saw that either. I think it is fairly common too.

    Lance who??

If only LA had looked at his own website.....

There IS a lot of fodder for a bio-pic movie about LA, but who would go? With articles about LA in mainstream media of all types, his reputation has to be taking a real beating. It will likely get worse before it has any chance of getting better.

People go see movies about Hitler, Stalin, serial killers, gangsters, I'm pretty sure there's an audience for a disgraced cyclist who doped.

Ugh...that hits a bit too close to home right now. Soon to be ex has ADHD coupled with a toxic level of narcissism. The blue-faced lying and denials are familiar. As stomach turning as this was, I am glad I read it.

Clinically the article is "right on". And the evidence is all around...the superficiality of the "apologies" is quite evident to all. I wish LA could have been more sincere with the Livestrong survivors, but then again, it wouldn't have been his true self.

True. All true. Does anyone else think that maybe years and years of drug use, and I mean the drugs themselves could have changed him? There was a time LA had real friends, like Betsy and Frankie, didn't he? Could all the roids have changed LA from a low level functioning A-hole to the megalomaniac sociopath we all know and pity?

I just remembered an interview with LA where he was asked hi goal, or something. He just said matter of factly, "I didn't come here to be pac fodder."

that is a great analysis, thanks for posting. though probably not a 'fun read' as KR says.

just came up for air after falling down a rabbit hole by reading the author's other mentioned article: the Vindictive Narcissist http://www.afterpsychotherapy.com/the-vindictive-narcissist/
powerful, scary stuff. especially the comments.

makes me think of a recent Kimmage column with its damning concluding paragraphs:

[Lemond and Mooneyham] sat on the porch for a while and then moved inside to the kitchen. Linda had something else on her mind: "How do I make him less of an asshole. He doesn't care about anyone."

"Well," LeMond replied. "I can't help you there."

How anybody can defend this guy is beyond me. Choose your heroes wisely.

    LeMond VO2 max 95, Armstrong 82....doh

What does that say about all of LA's shameless minions and entourage? Not to mention Spear, Flicker, Polish, RFutile, AlumFrog, etc.? ;)

Okay, I'm not even an armchair psychologist, but I do know that ALL successful people who completely surround themselves with sycophants eventually go off the rails. Rock stars, movie stars, and yes, even sports stars.

Armstrong may have been an unusual case, but he certainly wasn't unique.

Well, as Polish/Flicker say, were dealing with two diseases. One pysical and the other mental, both terribly incompacitating. And he overcame both to win 7 Tours. Isn't thar an even more remarkable achievement? Most people with personality disorders self-destruct but Lance came back to triumph over all of this and his cancer. So with all of these handycaps haters target him for more even abuse. The article says that Lance had raving NPD yet went on to win 7 Tours de France. In the face of all of this diversity Lance overcame it all. A triumph of the human spirit, which the haters refuse to see. So the sicker he is, the more we should praise he deserves.

Thanks Terrapin. Imho the point of the article is LA was off the rails a result of his early childhood. I see your point that people "get to big for their britches" but with Lance it seems to be much deeper.

SOL Lance did self destruct. Oddly enough my brother dealt with both of those things in his childhood. Survived cancer less one arm, never whined about it once. Much unlike Lance who told the world how hard it was to deal with over and over again. No father never complained. Much unlike Lance who whined about that in his books too. Suck it up Lance, there are millions of people in the world that have had to deal with a tougher life than you.

SOL's confirmation bias is amazing. His reading comprehension level leaves much to be desired. Points of fact:

    - Lance didn't *have* NPD past tense, he *has* NPD now, always has and very likely always will.
    - Lance has won precisely zero Tour de Frances.
    - Lance continues down his road of self destruction as we speak. Witness: Winfrey, Oprah.

"incompacitating"...Showing results for incapacitating; present participle of in·ca·pac·i·tate
    Verb
Prevent from functioning in a normal way.

So the sicker he is, the more we should praise he deserves.

    Right. EXACTLY. lol!

incompacitating -- present participle of v. "incompacitate" -- to enable one's income by lying on TV shows.

Its a rarely used word but SOL uses it perfectly.

Thanks for your post SOL. As always worth reading....

There are at least 3 gems in The Dark Sole's latest post but my favorite's gotta be "In the face of all of this diversity Lance overcame it all"

The blacks, the Asians, the Hispanics, the French, he just overcame it all.

It's really hard sometime to believe that Sole doesn't do that on purpose. Very entertaining, regardless!

Well... Let's say that Lance Armstrong does have narcissistic personality disorder... Wouldn't he be protected under the ADA? Doesnt the USADA have to provide reasonable accommodation to LA to protect his ability to earn a living?

@ Hey There, I just shot Diet Coke all over the place... ADA! One more card for the sycophants to play. It's gonna be great to see them to take that and run with it.
