I don't know why but VN has never really liked JP. Time and time again, he gets overlooked by them. He spends his season battling against the euro mud studs and then wins nats again but who gets the nod for top American for KY Worlds? The other JP. Don't get me wrong I hope that JPow has a good race too but come on VN show Page some love!
VN Does Not Like Page
-
It's all the more odd when you consider that both Dan Seaton and Jonathan Page are tied to the New Hampshire cycling scene.
-
Not sure that either JP will be able to make a dent at worlds.
For the good of the sport let's hope the younger Lars can put fire to Belgians like the old Lars could.
The wise man said follow me...and he walked behind. -
It's not just VN-- Page has a difficult time getting sponsorships. Blue dropped him when they sold. He's tough as nails but his personality does not lend himself to sponsorships.
In a different industry I dealt a bit with sponsorships and most guys do not get that the idea of a sponsorship is to generate more sales-- it is somewhat connected to winning but not exclusively. Some guys think just because they win they ought to get new stuff/ money/ travel/ etc. Sorry, but if you're a **** and fans find you cold and distant it doesn't matter if you win you're not generating sales.
Some folks get it, most don't.

yabut watermac, VN is picking who is going to do well in KY not who will sell the most green chamois.
One year JP had several good results on both sides of the pond and won nats but VN picked RT as the best US 'crosser. Another year VN rambled about TW and TJ and when JP was SECOND at worlds the story was more about why the other two got lapped then how FN awesome it was that JP was on the box at worlds.
-
Sorry, jm, I mist read the meaning of your post. I took it as VN dislikes him as a person. Somedays my reading comprehension is a bad as SOL's writing.
I have to hand it to JP- he's earned his stripes for going to Europe and slugging it out with all those guys.

Reading the article they seemed fair to both Powers and Page. But, I would agree with them, that Powers probably has the better chance to do well but they close. Page had a forgettable year until the last month and a half, or so. There is something to be said for finding form at the right time.
Powers was dominant stateside and had a good World Cup at Plzen. He faded a bit when he started flying back and forth for races. Still, he did beat Page last weekend so I suppose you could say he has the momentum.
Either way, I hope to cheer them on to a good result in a few days.

jmdirt, acronym help needed...
JP = Johathan Page
VN = VeloNews
RT = Ryan Trebon?
TW = ?
TJ = ?
FN = I think I got that one.I know it makes for fast typing but sometimes the alphabet soup gets me all confused.
-
Sorry, I thought that those were all gimmees.
TW=Tod Wells
TJ=Tim Johnsonjacobus, how is it fair? They only mentioned one American rider: JPow
-
Why do they need to be "fair"?
Jam Econo -
Breaking news: Fuji has signed up as bike sponsor for Page.
-
VN likes whomever was winning big the year before. So that is why they are on a Jeremey Power kick at the moment.
-
Apparently Fugi agrees with you jmdirt.
