    *jealous*

I'm sitting in the United Club in Narita, Japan, waiting for my connection to Seattle and then my flight to Chicago.

Can't believe there is finally another WC event in the States and I am gonna miss it. Fook.

    Just say "NO!!" to WCP!

Man, that course looks like about as much fun as a prostate exam...ugh.

    The Official Press Release:

2013 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships Revised Schedule

Louisville, KY - February 1, 2013. Forecast data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) project that high water levels in the Ohio River will cause Beargrass Creek to flood the low lying areas of Eva Bandman Park in Louisville, Ky, in the early hours on Sunday morning and that water level will continue to rise for the next 48 hours.

Extraordinary measures, including the construction of a temporary barrier, are ongoing to ensure that the 2013 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships races will still be held in their entirety. The Organizing Committee and the UCI together took the decision to revise the schedule. All four races will be held on Saturday February 2, starting with Men Juniors at 9:45 a.m., Elite Women at 11 a.m., Men Under-23 at 12:30 p.m., and Elite Men at 2:30 p.m. (All times are Eastern Standard.) All Sunday tickets will be honored at the gate on Saturday which will open at 8 a.m.

For more information, please contact Bill Kellick, Director of Communications, USA Cycling, at 719.209.8210 or bkellick@usacycling.org.

From a spectator point of view it's going to make Saturday great, but I feel for the racers whose schedules just got messed up.

On the plus side I'll be back in time to watch a hand-egg game that I've heard so much ;^)

What's wrong with a bit of rowing? Or this?

On a personal upside, now I may be able to watch women's and men's races. On Sunday I would have missed both.

That clinches it for me....was still pondering the possibility of a trip down there for Sunday. No way I can get there for tomorrow.

KR, I've been on the course and can assure you that you are wrong; it is (arguably) more fun than a prostate exam. There will never be another Worlds here, sorry to say.

I'm thinking this course change hurts Compton's chances. I liked the odds with the women riding through deep mud and 3-4 feet of water and the required snorkels. Those conditions should favor the bigger, heavier and stronger riders. Vos would be struggling to not get washed away. Maybe enough snorkels were not to be had on such short notice. In that case, I guess I can forgive the organizers.

Ben - they already run & bike. We don't want to turn this into a tri-event. The horror!

BTW - sounds like PlanB may be right. Just read that the Belgians are steaming mad about the changes.

Will USADA be doing the Dope Testing as the home federation? Of course, now that they have conquered the Worlds Most Sophisticated Doping Program, testing the Euro Guys/Gals might be a bit be anti-climatic for them. Oh well, pee in a cup is pee in a cup I guess...

One of my old mechanics is working the pits. "We had to resort to chiseling the frozen 'mud' off the bike..."

Prostate exam dude...it is going to be a TOUGH day in the saddle.

Dude, NO running water in the pits. They were kicking bikes to knock massive clumps off the down-tubes.

Saw barriers being installed next to the elite course to block off rising water.

It's got to have messed up race prep for the pros. I don't doubt the Euros are steaming mad but there might not have been a better alternative.

Keith, it was a tough day off the bike as well-- lots of running today.

watermoc - their coach used the words "world championships unworthy" with alberts chiming in on "amateuristic" organization.

Based on the translate.google of the sporza link, I'll tip Sven for the jersey as he seems the least uptight and whiny about the change. My son just texted his concern about having to use klister for the first time in his life for a race at Soldier Hollow (a Junior Olympics Super Qualifier for nordic skiing), and I just pointed out the obvious -- everyone's in the same boat with respect to conditions, so buck it up and use the tougher conditions to your advantage. Seems like the American's and Nys are operating that way.

Even before the schedule changes, it seems like there was quite a bit of griping over travel to begin with. There was a video interview in the Brussels airport with Michel Wuyts where he figures this is the only time this will happen; cites things like sponsors not being interested and USAC taking over. This may just (unfortunately) close the door for future WKs

Where to go this evening for some good peeps and beer?

I have a buddy there. He owns a bike shop, likes good beer, rides, and gets along with anyone.
