I assume LA was taxed on those bonuses. Can he claim that back if he's compelled to refund those bonuses?

    Lance who??

funny how taxes work. if you have stock options with a company, and they vest at a certain price, and you hold the shares, and then the stock price goes down, you're on the hook for the vested price. and if they go up, guess what? you're on the hook for the higher sell price.

That's not how stock options work.

You get an option to buy a stock at a given price, there is a vesting date and usually there's an end date as well, after which you can't exercise your option.

Once vested you play the game of deciding when to exercise your option. If the price of the stock goes up you buy the stock. In most cases you immediately sell the stock, and reap the profits. Not having spent a cent.

If the stock goes down in value, you don't exercise your option to buy.

You aren't on the hook for anything with a stock option. You have the "option" to buy or not within a given time period for a set price.

Seems Taxpayer Money does not work too well either. What a waste.

Wasted so much taxpayer money on Lance Witchhunt that the the USPS cannot afford to deliver on Saturday any more. Waste

Inferno7, which Giro is that photo from? LA's in pink trailing Indurain and leading Chiappucci, both of whom I thought had retired by the time Armstrong could compete for the overall in a Grand Tour.

Photoshop, it is actually Evgeni Berzin.

It is his word versus ours. We like our word. We like where we stand and we like our credibility."--Lance Armstrong.

The rider in pink looks sorta like the hybrid love child of LA and Ty Ty. Maybe they got their bags mixed up more often than not!

Federal investigation into witness tampering and obstruction of justice?? Oh boy....this could send him to federal prison for a couple of years.

Remember Martha Stewart and her insider trading case? Well...she went to prison alright, but the majority of the sentence imposed on her was the result of the obstruction of justice (witness tampering)charge, not the actual insider trading charge. Marion Jones? She didn't get sent to prison for doping but for lying under oath, or obstruction of justice.

This could be the end of the line for him:

woogie, you are correct i should have said 'they vest and you purchase the stock...'. however, once you exercise the option you are on the hook for taxes on the difference between the option price and the strike price. if you hold the stock and it goes down, you're still on the hook for the original dif. if it goes up, you're on the hook for the additional increase. at least that's how mine worked, but that was about 15 years ago. AMT played a role too as i recall.

cing- I think it's the 95 Giro. Got it from a guy on facebook who goes by the name of Evgeni Berzin must be a big Berzin fan. But that's Pantani in the White jersey

'94 Giro....the only time Berzin wore the pink jersey. '95 was won by Rominger and '96 by Tonkov.

    Just say "NO!!" to WCP!

Sorry to continue the thread drift. I think you can offset the gain with the loss by actually selling the stock in the same year. If it drops from your exercise price you can offset that loss against other gains or carry it forward, but you did pay tax on the original "gain."

Isn't today the USADA deadline to talk or the lifetime ban stays in place? Looks like a certain somebody had his huff, strutting off saying he wasn't going to cooperate, thought about never competing again and is back.
