Now, wouldn't it be cool if there was some way for us mere Forumite mortals to collectively self-police the SPAM?

Say if 10 or more different Forumites 'tagged' a SPAM message as such, and it then went to some corner of the internet for a time out til Moderators had the final word?

Moving to Off topic... Please keep these on off-topic or suggestions topic...

We're investigating better spam plugins. the last one was the cause of everyone's problem, so you can understand our reluctance to institute a new one...

It sure is nice that the "moderator" can spend time lecturing about making sure posts are in the "off topic" area, but can't delete the obvious spam posts.

+1 with Danboo, "stuff" happens when a Bike Magazine and all its assets goes from being run by Bike intrinsic ownership to Market hype bean counters.

danboo... We agreed on an approach. Keep OT posts where they belong, and no one would get lectured... We agreed on an approach so the OT topics COULD be discussed, and yet no one wants to abide by them, so we can always go back to no OT posts, and we'll delete everything not related to cycling, running, triathlon subject matter.

bobswire: VN is run largely independently. of the main office, who by the way is staffed with individuals who live eat and breath the sports we cover.

If the forums have become a place of complaints that no one is happy with, then just stop posting. Plain and simple. We provide this service free of charge, as has been pointed out. We HAVE been listening to feedback, and HAVE removed the spam posts manually until we get a better spam filter in place. We establish certain criteria for where things get posted, which was run by the community BEFORE we implemented for feedback, and no one complained or said it was a bad idea. As someone once asked me.. Where were you when the page was blank. We're happy to take constructive suggestion and feedback, but complaining for the sake of complaining is not productive. If you'd like to continue the conversation please do so in PM.

MM: I appreciate the feedback, as always in trying to work on ideas to make things better !

Just at least get the ignore feature to work so we can at least block these spammers.

Thanks Spud ! We're working on it. Not sure whatthe big issue is since we combined forums, but something isn't playing nice in the sandbox. We're hunkering down and trying to figure out how to deal with the crap ads, and adding some new features to the forums as well.. In the meantime, We'll be manually deleting and blocking the 'users' till we do.
