Man the forum is garbage.

I am so sick of this platform.

It is terrible. I might as well be on usenet in 1990.

Be patient, soon there will only be Bob and myself and the forum will run smoothly. Of course it will be nothing except him posting about riding and me posting about not.

When this started a month or so ago and there were complaints, a lot of folks here (pretender and others)
bitched and moaned about the people who complained.
Well, a month later and there are about 10 posts a day.
So, although it did no good to complain, it is true that the forum software and the lack of interest by Velonews or anybody to address the issue has pretty much signaled the demise.
    THE END.

The slow demise of the velonews forums?

This is the only forum I visit where most of the time I click on a topic and nothing happens about 90 percent of the time...

Most times it's hard to even get to the forums...have to pass via Velonews main page...and often can't even get through that way...

I've no idea what the problem is, but it makes reading here a frustrating experience...but maybe things will get better if bluezurich is correct...

stopped in for a peek at the "Velo non-news"... I feel your pain.. so decided to post one for "the common good"...

I think the VN / Muddy Buddy crew still wants to be in the paper business and this Internet stuff is wrecking everything. (management) "So, like if we make this forum a source of extreme odor all these complainers will have to subscribe to paper! iT'll be like the good old days."

reason for the delays, etc? Firewalls, virus filters. Not "Big Brother" exactly, but Little Sister is trying to steal your soul.

+1 Keith. This used to me my homepage, but no longer. I check it most days depending on if I can get in and post. We've had a robust community over the years and I don't see what the idea is for management is to make it less user friendly.

Maybe we threaten to all cancel our print subscriptions if they don't fix it? Pelkey and co will get a good laugh. "Hey guys better do something, we're about to lose .0003% of circulation.... BWAHAHAHAHA!!!"

first, danboo, let me apologize for making it personal. that was not my intent, and i'm not terribly proud of myself for attacking you personally.

that said, i do stand by my original point, which is there are other ways you, me, or any of us can do something about it. the old cliche applies here, i think, that about the proof in the pudding... if it's worth it to anyone here to salvage the sense of community (or whatever it is you feel is eroding) there are free or cheap, relatively easy ways to get people somewhere else.

that VN has chosen to let this erode is regrettable to some of us. the best job i ever had was in a sign shop- the money sucked, the shop was one big OSHA violation, the bosses were greedy pricks, but the group of employees was absolutely the best "team" of people i've ever spent 80% of my waking life with. and we've all stayed in touch in the decade+ since (despite our phuckup bosses running the business into the ground) because it is a priority for us. because we all recognized the value of it.

i will not participate in lambasting the propietors of this forum, nor anyone else who provides me with a free service that i'd otherwise and/or heretofore not needed or even known about.

i enjoy what i do get here- bugs and all- which is (sometimes) answers and opinions to genuine technical questions i have, and (more often) a daily anecdotal slice of the lives of people with an interest common to mine. i can find that in myriad places on line- in myriad places off line as well.

so, if it's the community you miss- tell us where to go, i'm sure some of us, at least, would be willing to follow you to a better forum. or, you know, if you just find me to be an insufferable ass, you can leave me out. i promise it won't dent my feelings.

    cheers.

I am actually getting used to it. The forum software emulates the skipping chain feeling quite well; also kind of like the student days, riding that rusty bike to the bar, with the headache from previous night's drinking reminding me that I should really be doing better things with my life.

I have been here since 1997 and it is definitely not at its best. I really like the cast of characters that we have here. However, it needs some serious work. I will linger and see if things get better (technically) but I spend more time at the serrota forum and cyclingnews (tech only)

I check the forum periodically, but certainly not to the extent I used to. I pretty much hang out on the Roadbikereview forums now.

Agreed aout the forum. Used to come here every day, but now I check things out maybe once a week (to see if it still loads, which is spotty anyways). Even more, the main velonews website doesn't render properly on my browsers (the layout cuts off the left 20% or so of the screen) so I have pretty much stopped trying to read the main site as well. When I am bored (as I am now) I'll fire up the only browser I can get things rendered in right to check things out, but other than that I have better things to do than to try to wade past technical problems.

I know it's free so not complaining.

it's pretty sad these days, another "Corporation" thinking about "Improvements" and it's worse than ever.
The printed version of VN has gone down the toilet IMHO since the new owner took over, so this is no surprise really
I check in every couple of days, that is if I can get in, and can post without getting sent into internet oblivion

I don't post here very often, but I do check in everyday, often multiple times a day, just to see if there' a topic I may be interested in. Unfortunately, when I do find a topic I may be interested in, I typically can't get it to load. Say what you will about porn sites, but I never have problems with their content loading! :)
