REPORT SPAM HERE

    Hi Forumites,

Apparently there is at least one spammer who really needs to get a life. He's gone from starting his own threads (which are easy for the MIB's to spot and delete) to posting responses in ongoing threads.

I'm sticking this post to the top of the Forum for you all to use as a place to let us know when the spammer is burying his stuff in threads.

If you see spam buried in a thread, please post a note here and let us know which thread it's in. Do NOT post here if the spam is a new thread all its own. Those are easy for us to spot and deal with.

If we all work together, we can keep the forum a nice neighborhood to gather in. And if we're lucky, the spammer(s) will either grow up or get bored and move on.

    All the best!

I saw some SPAM in Aisle 6 of my local grocery store.

Seriously, thanks for doing this. Mucho appreciated.

    Just say "NO!!" to WCP!

    Sportscult account was removed.

Curious as to why you guys think that againstthetide2 is spamming? They've only posted about a tri race to support breast cancer prevention. With a website address and a phone number.

    Hi Scott,

I saw the flag for againstthetide2, but opted not to remove them. I think they were flagged because they posted on multiple sub-forums, which looks like massive spam if your settings are such that you view all forums at once.

At the time, I thought it would make sense to have a conversation about what kinds of marketing should be allowed on the forum. Cycling/tri/running events for charity might be allowed. The same thing, but "for profit"...maybe not(?).

I've been too busy to raise the question(s), but if you want to lay down the rules, I'd be happy to follow 'em.

I've been removing many of those event posts. It's not like I'm a fan of cancer, I just figure that there are MANY places on the internet to get event information for those so choosing to participate. There are numerous ads surrounding the forum. If they want to advertise, they should go through the proper channels and pay VeloNews/Competitor. I kinda feel like they are hacking the system by not contributing to their overhead.

Also, posts that are basically made to get people to visit a particular blog (a large cyclist comes to mind,) frustrate me and I usually delete those as well. If I'm wrong in doing so, just let me know! But I've been doing my best to keep the forum clean and on point.

I don't get these postings. Are they the desperate acts of telemarketer's whose unemployment benefits have run out?

Like "Personal Organizers" and "Aroma Therapists", some occupations are going to have to fall by the wayside in this failing economy.

Some are reaching and some are just trying to spread some info. If I started a site like handlebargains.com I think part of the marketing would be to go around to cycling forums and drop a note. If it is done over and over then its spam but one isn't a big deal.

This is your guys place to hang out, talk cycling etc. So ultimately we want the users of the forums happy and if those posts are a problem then I'm fine with them being removed and having a sort of no soliciting kind of policy.
