Came to cycling from a background in running, but never really liked swimming. Did tri's pretty seriously for about 5-years but my race always began after the swim. Figured why bother if I disliked a third of the activity (Yeah -- it took me 5-years to figure this out!) Haven't swum a stroke in the past 4-years and don't miss it a bit, but I bike or run daily on a low-key basis.
Cyclists: Why Not Triathlon?
-
Woody Allen once said "Swimming is not a sport. It's what you do to keep from drowning." and similarly I say "Running is not a sport. It's what you do to catch a bus." And I don't take the bus.
Seriously I don't swim or like it and can't run because I have hunks of knee missing from injuries. I tried to run again but my knee starts to hurt.
And of course as a former roadie from way back, we used to revile the newbie triathletes as they were poor riders generally and way too keen. Lot's of excellent athletes in the tri pack of course but it was hugely popular here in Vancouver in the 80's and folks did them to be cool. We were cyclists and did not want to be seen as trendy. Hard to get over that. We called them jits. Jits on jit bars.
Lance who??
