Anybody know of any downside to riding while taking antibiotics? I have an anoying cough that I hack up a litlle mucous each time. Maybe a minor respitory infection? Got a 3 day race coming up next week...Wondering if I just ride on or see if the doc prescribes antibiotics.

    Thanks.

When I had Lyme disease, the doc said to put on more sunscreen, as your skin is apparently more susceptible to the sun under antibiotics.

Other than that, I didn't see a difference.

It depends on how serious the antibiotics are. They can definitely impact your performance during a race. Nothing dangerous, you just won't feel 100%. I think it has to do with your body putting out a ton of white blood cells to fight the infection.

Thanks for the responces...Well I went out for my morning ride. I am usually very good about cleaning my bottles. As I was rinsing one out I saw something inside. When I took a closer look I found lots of black "dots" down in the bottom and climbing the walls. It totally freaked me out to think that I may have been drinking in " mold" for the last ride or so....I wonder if that would have anything with not feeling so great the last couple of days, cough, low grade head aches etc...ugh..What a dope.

Probably not. The black mold that grows in bottles could give you food poisoning symptoms, but I don't think you'd get a cough from that.

I bet you just have a virus in your system that needs to work its way out. If that's the case, then obviously antibiotics won't help at all.

Definately use more sunscreen, and use SPF 50 or higher. As someone with a compromised immune system, my Dr. and I have discussed this topic in length.
