No HRM - save your money! Put your bike on a turbo-trainer or buy an old beater bike and set it up as a winter trainer.
Rumor has it that Andy Schleck cannot ride that bike at the -20 degree setting.....
Wear your helmet and gloves
I rode one in-store and was not impressed, especially for the $$. The geometry felt all wrong to me. Much better off riding your own bike on a trainer or rollers.
I know I'm jumping in very late to this post, but I own one of these trainers...it's worked about 2 times since I bought it in July 2011. I have had replacement parts sent on 4 differnet occassions (with most of them arriving WEEKS late due to backorder issues) and a technician just left my house with a burnt circuit board that will need to be replaced...2 more weeks. DO NOT BUY THE PROFORM TDF TRAINER.
Orbeaboy - that is indeed a bummer. Thanks for the heads up on quality issues. Amazed that they would even send out a technician. Guess that is a good sign or perhaps indicative of non-user friendly design. Seems to me that the PCBs/cards could easily be configured to use standard sockets & backplane and be easy to remove.
Hi Folks! New update from me. The quality issues with the Proform TDF are getting worse. I've waited and waited for a backordered circuit board to be sent to my home and a technician to replace it. It lasted 4 rides before smoking and shorting out AGAIN.... Since owning this last August, I've had to download 4 program updates, replaced the console 3 times, replaced 2 circuit boards and one incline motor. I've contacted my attorney to see if I have any options...I will GIVE IT AWAY to get space for my old wind trainer...
Those things look both hokey and kind of neat. Can't say I'm surprised at the quality control issues--I have a hard time believing that any motorized home fitness equipment is well made--the margins must be razor thin...
I've been riding some 20? year old Tacx rollers and at this point it's the best workout I can get at home (better than a turbo trainer by far). I really like riding rollers, I must say.
Will give the tdf trainer a pass...
cycleops makes spin bikes w/ built in power & can set it up to proper position. I have the 300 model - works like a champ. The newer ones have electronic controlled resistance = a nice upgrade.
If you look around - you can find them on craigslist for < half of what they retail for - around 2 large. Think I got mine very slightly used for like 8 hund.
Yes, but the other trainer has Tour de France in the name. It MUST be better!
