So new research says that a good belly laugh can increase pain limits by 10%. It will be interesting to see if the triathlon community and coaches have any comments on the benefits of listening to a comedy podcast before a race to help ward of pain. I wrote a few words on it yesterday...http://forcequitandmovetotrash.blogspot.com/2011/09/it-has-been-known-for-while-now-well.html

Somebody please tell me a good joke in the middle of the swim!

Seriously though, even a little mental humor helps break the brain/body pain link just long enough to either recover or push ahead a little.

Well I recall Scott Anderson sprinting far too early in a Tuesday Night World Championship training race and pulling his shorts down (pre bib shorts) and putting the waist band of the shorts under his saddle. The front erupted in laughter. Guys would ride around the suddenly slowed pack and see the site in front and start laughing too. It is impossible to sprint and belly laugh. Scott won.

    Lance who??
